With a burgeoning number of people developing chronic respiratory disease and increased attention on preventing hospital readmissions, respiratory therapists and sleep technologists should be in hot demand this year. But how will tightening hospital reimbursements and an emphasis on the bottom line affect respiratory therapist and sleep tech income? With organization costs, the rising cost and increased amount of CEUs, and less than comparative compensation pay-wise, it wasn't worth continuing. I'm running into a lot of places that only want RRT, even though I have been a CRT RCP for over 20 years and am well versed in all the hospital areas. So, I opted to make a big change and now build skyscrapers. Respiratory Therapy didn't get the recognition or reimbursement it deserved and probably never will.

Joseph, as a high school teacher and a RRT I would have a lot less work and a lot more money if I went back to the hospital setting vs teaching high school.

Getting to expensive to belong to organizations. Pay is really lagging compared to other professions. We are just as important as teachers but looking at pay comparison we are way behind!!
