CPT-4 Code for High-flow Heated Nasal Cannula for Neonates

May 11, 2009

Q: What's the CPT-4 code for high-flow heated nasal cannula for neonates, supply and daily charges?

A: Since the device was FDA-approved in August 2008, there isn't a supply code for its use yet. Your facility billing staff should be able to assign a temporary chargemaster number for using the device for tracking purposes. The management is included in the usual therapist codes and there isn't any CPT code for licensed providers, such as doctors and midlevels, beyond the normal neonatal care codes.
