Billing for FEV1 and Peak Flow

Print ArticleEmail Article

June 15, 2009

Q: We currently have a medication nebulizer protocol in place to perform FEV1, and peak flows on all patients who are ordered med neb treatments and meet certain indications. These procedures are used to determine the effectiveness and the continue utilization of the nebulizer treatments. We have not been charging for those FEV1 and peak flow procedures. Are we able to charge at least the initial FEV1 and peak flow, if not all under the PFT Code 94375?

A: Use of the 94375 (Respiratory flow volume loop) would be appropriate in this evaluation. Don't bill for a pulmonary function test or a spirometry for this evaluation.
