The American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA), Washington, D.C., developed a web-based directory that compiles a list of vendors with products and services that can benefit sleep apnea patients and those who snore. Patients can access it at www.apnea-snoringdirectory.org.
"The purpose of the site is to provide a useful and reliable information resource about companies that can help those with sleep apnea and who snore," said Edward Grandi, executive director of the association. "As a nonprofit we do not endorse or recommend any product or service. We provide this directory as a public service to the 75,000-plus consumers who visit the association's web sites each month."
Each listing provides a 50-word description of the product or service as well as the website and contact telephone number and/or email address. Major manufacturers (Philips Respironics, ResMed, Fisher & Paykel, and DeVilbiss) of positive airway pressure devices currently are listed on the website, in addition to other service providers and products under a variety of related categories.
The association has established a committee to review each listing submission to ensure that it is an appropriate and legitimate resource and the ASAA reserves the right to decline providing a listing for any reason.
The directory can be accessed from the association's main website at www.sleepapnea.org and from the Apnea Support Forum website at www.apneasupport.org.
